Media Training

Ex leader of the Conservative party Michael Howard is still probably more famous for being asked the same question by Jeremy Paxman 12 times on Newsnight than for any of the things he has achieved in a distinguished political career.

It is clear that even the very best may occasionally need some media training. This is even more important now with 24 hour news creating a new kind of sensationalism and the internet giving people the power to watch or listen to any errors over and over again.

We live a world where one conversation to a trade journalist on the phone in the morning can lead to an online article by Midday with your quote, out of context, as the headline. By lunchtime, an online national newspaper could have followed the article up leading to a drive time discussion on a national radio programme by the afternoon. By the evening, a few international newswires could have cut and paste the story leading to hundreds of different versions of the story around the world. Your phone by now could be ringing off the hook with media bids from national and international TV stations. And the next morning you will wake to see what the print editions say.

Our people have helped CEOs, high ranking civil servants, senior figures in NGOS as well as lawyers face the media with confidence. They have also media trained Foreign Office staff and business leaders all over the world. They have run sessions in Beijing, St Petersburg, Budapest, Lisbon, Rio de Janiero, Prague, Dubai, Helsinki, Singapore, Paris, Abu Dhabi, Geneva, Frankfurt, Madrid, Brussels and Tokyo.

We will tailor a session to your needs; whether it is help with broadcast TV and radio, newspapers and magazines, trade publications or dealing with online and social media.

Apollo media training take place in the central London premises of Arundal House, which is fully kitted out with state of the art visual and sound recording equipment or we can bring the team and equipment directly to your office. Our sessions include:

  • "Give Great Answers" segments enable you to formulate, test out, modify and perfect performance.
  • Think the way journalists do so you can capitalise on the media agenda and deploy appropriate illustrations to back up your organisation's messages.
  • Learn the secrets of remaining composed and effective during hostile and tricky interview situations.
  • Walk away with a "Media Tactics" triple CD as well as a DVD of your own interview performances.
